Hybrid bits are engineered to handle a diverse range of rock types with remarkable efficiency. By integrating elements of both roller - cone and PDC (Polycrystalline Diamond Compact) technologies, they can adapt to changing lithologies within a single wellbore. In softer formations, the PDC - like cutting structures can quickly shear through the rock, achieving a high rate of penetration. As the drill encounters harder or more abrasive layers, the roller - cone components, equipped with tungsten carbide inserts or steel teeth, take over, using impact and crushing forces to break the rock. This versatility eliminates the need for frequent bit changes during drilling, reducing non - productive time and associated costs.
