The cutting teeth of hard - rock well tricone bits are key components for effective drilling in hard - rock formations. 
 

Tooth Shape Design is very important for the tricone drilling bits.The tooth shape design are as following:

 

Wedge - Shaped Teeth
The shape of the wedge - shaped teeth is similar to a wedge, with a narrow top and a wide bottom. When drilling hard rock, this tooth shape mainly breaks the rock by applying relatively large concentrated pressure.

 

When the bit rotates, the narrow top of the wedge - shaped tooth first contacts the rock and generates a very high local stress, exceeding the compressive strength of the rock, causing cracks to form and the rock to break below the tooth tip. Wedge - shaped teeth are suitable for drilling rocks with relatively high hardness and certain brittleness, such as granite.

 

Spherical Teeth
The shape of the spherical teeth is spherical or approximately spherical. This tooth shape has a relatively large contact area with the rock during the drilling process.

 

Spherical teeth mainly break the rock by rolling and squeezing. In hard - rock drilling, spherical teeth can generate relatively large shear stress on the rock surface, causing the rock to break along the shear plane. Spherical teeth are suitable for drilling rocks with relatively high hardness and good toughness, such as basalt.

 

Conical Teeth
The shape of the conical teeth is conical, which combines some characteristics of wedge - shaped teeth and spherical teeth.

 

The top of the conical tooth is relatively sharp. During drilling, it can generate relatively large concentrated stress like the wedge - shaped tooth, and at the same time, its side can also generate a certain shearing effect during rotation. Conical teeth have a relatively good drilling effect in various hard - rock formations, especially in formations where the rock hardness and toughness change greatly.
